  • About the Role
  • This is an opportunity to step into a vital role within the Acute Care (Crisis) Team, supporting individuals experiencing acute mental health distress.

You will complete timely assessments, deliver brief therapeutic follow-up, facilitate referrals, and guide individuals and their whanau toward a clear and supported path forward.While this is a permanent full-time 1.0 FTE vacancy, we are flexible to applicants looking for part-time hours.

  • About the Team / Service / Location
  • Our Whakatane based Acute Care Team is part of a wider Adult Community Mental Health & Addictions service that is collaborative, supportive, and closely connected with both inpatient and community partners.
  • You will be working alongside Nurse Practitioners, Consultants, Registrars, Social Workers, Nurses, and Occupational Therapists – all focused on delivering responsive, whanau-centred care in the beautiful Eastern Bay of Plenty.

  • About you
  • We are looking for individuals who are experienced in mental health care, confident in acute assessment, and grounded in a person-first approach.
  • You will bring calmness to crisis situations, think clearly under pressure, and value the role of whanau and community networks in recovery.

  • What you will bring :
  • Registration with a relevant professional board (Registered Nurse, Occupational Therapist, Social Worker)
  • Current Annual Practicing Certificate
  • Mental Health within your scope of practice
  • Ideally 5+ years of experience in the mental health sector
  • Acute assessment and decision-making capability
  • A positive, adaptable mindset with a commitment to ongoing learning
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays
