- About the Role
- This is an opportunity to step into a vital role within the Acute Care (Crisis) Team, supporting individuals experiencing acute mental health distress.
You will complete timely assessments, deliver brief therapeutic follow-up, facilitate referrals, and guide individuals and their whanau toward a clear and supported path forward.While this is a permanent full-time 1.0 FTE vacancy, we are flexible to applicants looking for part-time hours.

About the Team / Service / LocationOur Whakatane based Acute Care Team is part of a wider Adult Community Mental Health & Addictions service that is collaborative, supportive, and closely connected with both inpatient and community partners.You will be working alongside Nurse Practitioners, Consultants, Registrars, Social Workers, Nurses, and Occupational Therapists – all focused on delivering responsive, whanau-centred care in the beautiful Eastern Bay of Plenty.

About youWe are looking for individuals who are experienced in mental health care, confident in acute assessment, and grounded in a person-first approach.You will bring calmness to crisis situations, think clearly under pressure, and value the role of whanau and community networks in recovery.
What you will bring :Registration with a relevant professional board (Registered Nurse, Occupational Therapist, Social Worker)Current Annual Practicing CertificateMental Health within your scope of practiceIdeally 5+ years of experience in the mental health sectorAcute assessment and decision-making capabilityA positive, adaptable mindset with a commitment to ongoing learningAvailability to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidaysWorking for Health New ZealandHealth New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is dedicated to ensuring excellent healthcare for the people of New Zealand.We embrace a workforce that is diverse and inclusive so that we are better positioned to understand and service our community.
