Ideally, this would be based in Invercargill, however, there may be flexibility to be based in one of our other Southland or Otago locations for the right candidate.Whether you're already a Line Design Engineer or someone with an engineering background looking to break into the electricity distribution industry, we want to hear from you!
This critical role focuses on the design, review, and engineering analysis of poles, structures, and overhead line equipment—ensuring our communities receive safe and reliable electricity.Key Responsibilities : Create and peer-review overhead line designs in compliance with relevant standards and best practicesProvide engineering advice, guidance, and support and write clear, concise reports to support asset management decisionsParticipate in Safety in Design processes and lead field-based product testing initiativesAnalyze asset performance data to support maintenance planning and continuous improvementSupport and improve overhead line data collection processes—including training field staff and performing auditsContribute to the development of engineering standards, procedures, and standardized designsConduct detailed engineering assessments of existing line assets through site inspections, data analysis, and collaboration with asset inspectorsMentor and support trainees and technical staff to build capability across the businessWhat You'll Bring : Relevant professional qualification, such as a Level 6 or higher Civil or Mechanical Engineering diplomaPreferably, experience in overhead line design within the electricity sectorAn understanding of Safety in Design principlesSome background in root cause and economic analysis, along with general data analysis skillsTechnologically adept with strong reporting and communication capabilitiesThe ideal candidate will be safety-focused and results-driven, with a proactive approach to problem-solving and a collaborative spirit.
They will demonstrate confidence in making timely, well-informed decisions and show flexibility when occasional travel is required.
