Senior Site Reliability Engineer

The opportunity

The purpose of this role is to work alongside others to define the best practices of your craft, whilst working with teams to improve the reliability and observability of our systems, and also improving development and delivery pipelines across NZTA's complex technology estate.

You will be working alongside Software Developers, Business Analysts, Product Owners, Technology Leadership, Business Owners, QA Engineers, Vendors and Suppliers. You should be able to select best solutions in cloud environments based on best practices.

We are looking for someone with excellent analytical ability and is a logical problem solver with clear communication skills. Integration, automation and Azure experience preferred.

We are seeking to appoint at a salary between $131,659 and $146,288 of band commensurate to skills and experience.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have :

• The ability to understand how solutions are architected and integrated internally and with external third‑party software.
• Significant understanding of CI / CD.
• Significant experience creating pipelines in a CI / CD platform (e.g. GitHub, ADO).
• Significant experience managing job artefacts.
• Significant experience running large systems and infrastructure.
• Significant experience with monitoring platforms (e.g. Azure Monitor, GCP Cloud Monitoring).
• Significant experience with observability platforms (e.g. Azure Application Insights, Grafana).
• Significant experience in alerting systems (e.g. Opsgenie, PagerDuty).
• Significant experience in IaC tools (e.g. Terraform).
• Significant experience working with SLOs / SLIs and SLAs.
• Significant experience with at least one major cloud provider; Azure preferred.
• Significant experience with Site Reliability Engineering concepts.
• Tertiary level qualification in a relevant subject or equivalent experience.

You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori. You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of Te Tiriti o Waitangi as it applies in the public service.
