Composite Technician

Location : RAF Brize Norton, Carterton, Oxfordshire, OX18 3LX

Type : Permanent

Working Regime : Mon-Fri, 40 hours / week, with shifts :

2 weeks of Day Shifts : Monday – Friday, 08 : 00 – 17 : 00

1 week of Evening Shifts : Mon-Thu, 16 : 00 – 02 : 00

Salary depends on responsibilities, skills, and experience :

Supervisor – Senior Technician : £48,400

Producer – Technician : £44,000

Serco has supported RAF Brize Norton since 1997, providing multi-activity and engineering support, including aircraft maintenance, fueling, and ground control services.

The base is the largest RAF operating base, supporting air transport and refueling for the RAF fleet.

As an Aircraft Structures Technician, you will contribute to vital work in this environment, working with a team of 5,800 service personnel, 1,200 contractors, and 300 civil servants.

The team is responsible for structural and composite repairs on C-17 aircraft, working both in hangars and on the aircraft, often at heights and in confined spaces.

Main Accountabilities :

Knowledge and experience in laminating and trimming composite materials, including carbon fiber and fiberglass wet layups, vacuum bagging, hot bonder curing, damage assessment, scarfing, honeycomb core replacement, surface and adhesive preparation.

Operate workshop machines and hand tools.

Interpret engineering drawings, manuals, and work instructions.

Access technical information and maintenance records using IT skills.

Document work and maintain accurate records.

Collaborate with team members and departments to ensure quality and efficiency.

Ensure repairs are correctly certified and records are complete.

Requirements :

Experience with laminating and trimming composite materials.

Recognized qualification such as BTEC / ONC / NVQ Level 3 or military course in advanced composite repairs.

Experience in armed forces or industry related to composite manufacture, maintenance, or repair.
