He oranga taiao, he oranga tangata.About the roleThis is a fixed-term, seasonal role with variable hours : 20 hours per week (Nov–Dec), 30 hours per week (Jan–Mar), and 20 hours per week (April).
Your role primarily involves ensuring an excellent visitor experience is provided for all domestic and international visitors; through : Ensuring visitors have a safe and knowledgeable time in the outdoorsProviding visitors with up-to-date information about recreational opportunities locally and throughout the country.Informing visitors of local conservation projects, condition of tracks and huts and matching their skills and experiences to appropriate opportunities available.Promoting and selling conservation merchandise.Ensuring branding opportunities are maximised and national campaigns are promoted e.g. Conservation Week, Volunteer weekEnsuring storytelling and interpretation are concise, truly functional, relevant and up to date.Supporting hunters to be able to manage their permits and hunting experienceSupporting our field teams with safety procedures.DOC shared rental accommodation is available for the duration of the role, if required.Skills and experienceIf you have some of the following, we are keen to hear from you : An enthusiasm and active interest in outdoor pursuits and conservationExperience and demonstrated competence in customer service, sales and retailAvailability to work weekends and holidaysExcellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to maintain high standards while working under pressureConfidence in delivering clear and positive safety messagingCompetent computer skills and the ability to learn new systems.Desirable : Knowledge of conservation, recreation, and tourism opportunities in Rakiura and the wider Southland area.What's in it for you?
