The Institute of Directors (IoD) is Aotearoa New Zealand’s leading professional body for directors and is at the heart of the governance community. Its Governance Leadership Centre (GLC) plays a key role in shaping the future of governance in Aotearoa New Zealand and ensuring directors have the insights and skills they need to navigate complex and evolving challenges.

This is a rare opportunity to take on a high-profile leadership role that is at the forefront of governance thinking and practice around New Zealand. The General Manager, Governance Leadership Centre will lead IoD’s thought leadership, advisory, policy and advocacy programme, set and uphold the highest standards of governance practice and oversee IoD’s continuing professional development and education programmes.

About the role

This role demands intellectual agility and strategic foresight. The successful candidate will :

  • Scan global and local trends, distil complex issues and curate insights that matter for directors.
  • Be nimble yet considered in shaping governance perspectives and influencing policy.
  • Take a key leadership role in connecting with members, government, regulators, media and stakeholders.
  • Champion inclusive and culturally responsive governance, including shared leadership of the IoD’s Māori Governance programme.
  • With IoD’s Council, oversee membership and professional standards as the Registrar.
  • Inspire and empower a talented team to deliver through collaboration and innovation.
