People & Capability Operations Coordinator

Our People & Capability team is dedicated to delivering high-quality HR and payroll services that support the success of Dunedin City Council. We work collaboratively across the organisation to provide expert advice, efficient processes, and exceptional customer service. From recruitment and onboarding to payroll and compliance, our focus is on creating a positive employee experience while ensuring accuracy and integrity in everything we do.

The opportunity :

We have an exciting career opportunity for a motivated and detail-oriented professional to join our People & Capability team. In this dynamic role, you’ll deliver essential HR and payroll services that keep our organisation running smoothly. From managing employee documentation and supporting onboarding processes to ensuring accurate payroll and providing exceptional customer service, you’ll play a key part in creating a positive experience for our people while maintaining compliance and operational excellence.

Ideally you will have :

  • A qualification in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field or a strong interest in developing your career in HR and payroll.
  • Some experience in HR administration or payroll processing is an advantage, but not essential – we’re happy to provide training for the right person.
  • Proven ability to manage confidential information with discretion and accuracy.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to explain information clearly.
  • A customer-focused approach with a commitment to delivering exceptional service.
  • High attention to detail and strong analytical skills for problem-solving.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and willingness to learn HR / payroll systems.
  • Adaptability to new technologies, systems, and processes.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and independently when required.

What we offer

  • Permanent, full time opportunity
  • 5 weeks annual leave + additional long service leave after qualifying periods
  • Parental leave benefits, including paid partner's leave
  • Superannuation (after 6 months of service) + free annual flu vaccinations and eye checks every 2 years
  • Salary range : $61,722 - $72,614
