Mo te turanga | About the role
You will carry out critical conservation work within Mt Aspiring National Park and the Greenstone / Caples Conservation Area.
With the release of Takahe in the Greenstone Valley, part of the role will be assisting in predator control and locationally monitoring of the birds.
As our Ranger you will carry out a range of tasks on a variety of conservation projects.
The position will be focussed on :
checking and maintaining trap lines
weed and pest control
monitoring programs for mohua, rock wren, whio, and bats
assisting the Heritage and Visitor team as required.
At times you will be required to stay away overnight, this could be up to 5 days in the backcountry, often in remote and rugged terrain.

This position is a great opportunity to develop your skills in a position that covers a range of biodiversity work.
If you have the following attributes, we are keen to hear from you :
a current full driver's license
knowledge and interest in conservation
good communication skills and the ability to work well within a small team
a high level of fitness with backcountry experience, including the ability to navigate steep off trail terrain
good computer skills, with ability to pick up new systems quickly
a strong health and safety focus
ability to work outside of normal working hours (which may include early mornings, evenings, and weekends).
Desirable :
a current first aid certificate
river crossing training
Growsafe accreditation

The position is based in Glenorchy and is part of the Wakatipu Biodiversity team.
The Glenorchy team is made up of seven permanent staff and during the summer season the staff numbers increase with seasonal staff (trappers, hut wardens and amenities staff).

The salary range for this position is $60,703 to $66,911 with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience.
