  • Public Affairs and Customer Experience at Toitu Te Whenua is a multi-disciplinary function with expertise in customer and stakeholder engagement, insights, media and strategic communications, and digital and contact centre channels.

We use insights to improve customer experience; help mitigate risks and support the organisation to be successful.

The Communications Advisor will report to the Leader Public Affairs.

  • The Communications Advisor – Public Affairs will :
  • Be an experienced practitioner who can support the communications, engagement needs of Toitu Te Whenua, including our day-to-day mahi with media and many priority work programmes.
  • Be able to navigate the complexities of multiple stakeholders and audiences, and the machinery of government.
  • Be a communications practitioner with experience in working in a high paced environment.
  • Influence and work with and through others in a high-trust, high performance team culture that collaborates in a customer-centric way and gets buy-in from key stakeholders
  • Anticipate challenges and risks that may impact on the delivery of our work programmes and goals and proactively advise on options for solutions balancing strategic priorities, risk and operational realities.

  • A proven track record of expertise, experience and achievement in managing media and all aspects of external communications and engagement in a government context.
  • Experience in the design and implementation of communications strategies and plans, and in the design and delivery of written media and communications collateral to support the needs of day-to-day work and priority initiatives.
  • Be comfortable with the need to be part of a team on a media roster including after hours
  • An understanding and appreciation of the machinery of government, political landscape and wider Government communication priorities.
  • Demonstrated thought leadership and influencing skills - persuasive with senior leaders and opinion-formers and able to actively manage reputation across all audiences.
  • A tertiary qualification, preferably in a related area (PR, communications, and / or engagement) and / or extensive and comparable relevant experience.
  • Must have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand.The salary range for this role is $90,000 to $110,000 depending on skills and experience :
