Who we are : Tataki Auckland Unlimited is New Zealand's largest producer of cultural, entertainment, sporting and wildlife experiences, and whose work touches the lives of all Aucklanders and visitors to our region.

TAU's Destination ropu is responsible for development and delivery of Auckland's Major Events strategy, including our cultural festivals Lantern Festival, Pasifika, and Diwali.

Our focus is on presenting the best of national and international event content as well as a range of community-focused programmes that contribute to Auckland being a culturally vibrant city for all.

The opportunity

Reporting to the Director – Destination, you will play a pivotal role in championing, attracting, guiding Auckland Council's investment in, and delivering major events in Auckland.

This is a fixed-term, full-time opportunity where you will lead a high-performing team that works in partnership with the major events sector and multiple public entities to deliver a world-class events portfolio to grow Auckland's visitor economy, making Auckland a desirable place to live and promoting Auckland to the world.

As Head of Major Events, you'll drive Auckland's event strategy, delivering iconic experiences that put our city on the global map, grow the visitor economy, and inspire our communities.

About you

To be successful in the role, you will have the ability to coordinate and oversee a comprehensive Major Events programme, build strong internal and external relationships, and provide detailed reporting of deliverables and outcomes.

Proven experience in managing large scale events including stakeholder management, governance, partnerships, community engagement and compliance

Proven success in developing and leading high performing teams

High level of commercial acumen as well as strong negotiation skills

Both public and private sector experience

Ability to navigate the complexities of major event investment and delivery

Resilience, positivity and ability to maintain composure under pressure and scrutiny

Outstanding relationship management skills with the ability to lead and influence across all levels both internally and externally

Your energy and genuine passion for major events will allow you to confidently lead the strategic development, attraction and delivery of key anchor events for the region.
