About the Role

Are you an experienced payroll professional who’s also passionate about people and purpose? This is your opportunity to take ownership of payroll while contributing as a trusted HR generalist in a dynamic, inclusive environment guided by strong community and cultural values. You’ll deliver accurate, timely payroll while providing responsive HR support across recruitment, onboarding, and generalist advice. What You’ll Be Doing

  • Running end-to-end payroll every fortnight for both waged and salaried employees
  • Managing leave types and entitlements with care and accuracy, applying your solid NZ employment law knowledge
  • Coordinating HR activities : recruitment, onboarding, contracts, variations, reporting, and maintaining HRIS and payroll systems
  • Responding to HR queries with warmth, clarity, and professionalism
  • Contributing to a workplace where tikanga Māori and cultural connection are part of everyday life — you’ll enjoy opportunities to grow your understanding, participate in pepeha, waiata, karakia, and shared learning experiences
  • Supporting a positive, growth-focused team culture built on respect, inclusion, and collaboration

What You’ll Bring

  • Proven experience managing full-cycle payroll for a small to medium-sized organisation (salaried and waged staff)
  • Strong knowledge of NZ employment legislation — overseas applicants need not apply
  • HR generalist experience (Coordinator or Advisor level) across the employee lifecycle : recruitment, onboarding, contracts, variations, reporting
  • Ability to build trust-based relationships and communicate with empathy and integrity
  • A genuine openness to engaging with Māori heritage and participating in cultural practices as part of daily work life, enjoy karakia and waiata
