Te āheinga : The opportunity

We are looking for a Capability and Training Coordinator to support our Customer Solutions team. As we reposition ourselves to deliver a higher level of service and meet the changing needs of our community, this role will be instrumental in driving team development, service excellence and a culture of continuous improvement.

In this role, you’ll design, deliver and evaluate training, coaching and development initiatives that build staff confidence and capability. You’ll play a key role in ensuring high-quality customer interactions and promoting a learning culture aligned with our organisational values and service standards.

In this role, you will :

  • Design, deliver and evaluate training programmes for new and existing staff.
  • Support induction and onboarding of new team members.
  • Facilitate workshops, e-learning and one‑on‑one coaching.
  • Collaborate with the Team Leader on team training and development plans.
  • Develop and maintain training resources, guides and SOPs.
  • Deliver frontline and call centre service support, 1-2 days a week, to stay connected to operational challenges, customer themes and workloads.
  • Dedicate 3-4 days a week to coaching, retraining, developing materials for new initiatives and process changes, and supporting learning needs.
  • Conduct quality evaluations for all team members and maintain the knowledge base and training systems.
  • Carry out quality assessments of account administration and provide performance reporting to the Team Leader.
  • Support staff in the use of core customer service and library systems, tools, self‑service technologies and digital platforms.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for systems, procedures and training content.

To be successful in this role, we are looking for someone with :

  • Extensive experience in designing and delivering adult learning and development programmes.
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and digital learning tools.
  • Excellent facilitation, coaching and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organisational, time management and planning capabilities.
  • A proactive approach to identifying development needs and delivering effective learning solutions.
  • A strong commitment to continuous improvement and customer service excellence.

  • This role is based across Council’s customer‑facing sites in Tokoroa, Putāruru and Tīrau, and is 35 hours per week (part‑time). We have a strong safety culture, so we require preferred candidates to undergo pre‑employment drug and alcohol testing.
