  • About the role
  • This is arare opportunity to join our Palliative Care team as a Consultant / Senior Medical Officer - Palliative Care Physician,providing cover during a long leave period.You will be workingprimarily at Wellington Regional Hospital with outreach to Kenepuru Hospital, and will provide specialist medical care to patients and whanauwith complex palliative needs.
  • The role combines direct clinical care, expertsymptom management, consultation across specialties, and collaborative practicewith nursing, allied health, and community partners.You'llmanage a varied inpatient caseload, provide senior medical advice to cliniciansacross the hospital, support complex clinical decision-making, and work closelywith hospice and primary care teams to ensure seamless transitions for patientsbetween care settings.

  • About the Team / Service / Location
  • TheHospital Palliative Care Service is a highly skilled multidisciplinary teambased at Wellington Regional Hospital, with outreach to Kenepuru Hospital.
  • Theteam consists of SMOs, CNSs, RMO and NP colleagues.

    We work closely withhospital teams, primary care, community providers, and hospices to ensureequitable, patient-centred palliative care.

    Our service sees over

  • newpatients each year, spanning both malignant and non-malignant conditions.
  • and district is located centrally in Wellington and has over 6,000 full-time equivalent staff, making us one of the major employers in the Wellington region.

    We operate three hospitals ' Regional Hospital in Newtown, Hospital and Kenepuru Hospital in ' as well as the Health Centre at Paraparaumu.

  • Mou - About you
  • Vocationally registered in Internal Medicine (Palliative Medicine) with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ)
  • FRACP or equivalent qualification and be able to register for vocational registration with the MCNZ
  • Work in collaboration with multidisciplinary team
  • Broad experience in hospital and / or hospice-based palliative care
  • Working for Health New Zealand
