Job description

Our Vision : Preventing Harm. Saving Lives. Securing our Future.

We play a key role in the guardianship of New Zealand waterways. We’re bringing together our aroha, work and skills to achieve our outcomes of sustainable supply chains and sectors, safe people and operations, secure ports and ships, and clean seas and waterways.

Our values are about who we are as individuals and the behaviours we expect from each other at Maritime NZ.

Care | Kia Tika - We care for each other and do the right thing

Courage | Kia Māia - We are brave, capable and confident

The Notifications and Enquiries Team (NET) simplifies the process for notifications and enquiries coming into Maritime NZ. The Team makes it easy to notify MNZ of incidents and ensures that responses to notifications and enquiries meet agreed standards and expectations with respect to quality, timeliness, efficiency, coverage and transparency. By promptly responding to enquiries the Team aims to improve Maritime NZ's education and engagement efforts and deliver a better regulatory service to stakeholders.

The Notifications &Enquiries Function comprises two concepts :

  • A Notifications and Enquiries Team (NET), which has been established and is progressively increasing its capability, capacity and the services and responses it undertakes.
  • A Central Notifications and Enquiries Function (CNEF), which provides a consistent and cohesive framework for Maritime NZ’s response to all notifications and enquiries, including those received directly by operational and specialist teams within the organisation.

Te tūnga | The role

As Manager Notifications and Enquiries you will become a member of the Regulatory Practice, Licensing and Notifications Leadership Team (Reg PL&NET), and the Regulatory Operations Leadership Team, working closely with other Regulatory Operations leaders on a regular basis. The role includes both leadership for the current core work of the Notifications and Enquiries Team, as well as the Notifications and Enquiries Implementation Project as we continue to build towards our ambition for the function.

You will have demonstrated people leadership skills and a passion for developing others. You will have a proven track record of leading and building highly engaged teams with a safe, trusting and enabling culture, managing performance and supporting people to succeed.

  • Experience working with legislation, operational policy, practice frameworks and business processes in a regulatory environment and how these should be applied to effectively undertake triage, assessment and allocation of enquiries
  • An agile, positive and collaborative regulatory leader – someone who can bring energy and fun while also supporting the team’s focus on the mahi (both day to day decisions / direction, as well as future focused support to the project work)
  • The ability to network effectively in a consultative and collaborative manner, influencing and building credibility across a range of stakeholders both internally and externally
  • Demonstrated ability to engage others in a vision and lead and implement transformation
  • Strong experience in developing and leading complex regulatory processes and practice with a strong user experience focused approach
  • Proven experience and knowledge of notification and enquiries response operations
  • An eye for continuous improvement
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Maritime NZ recognises and respects te Tiriti o Waitangi and we are committed to working with Māori to build strong, meaningful and enduring relationships to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.

We aim to be a workplace where everyone feels valued, supported with a sense of belonging. We encourage our people to actively contribute to our workplace culture where we all thrive and authentically live our values.

Upon joining us you'll receive a full range of benefits including Income Protection and Life Insurance so check out our full range on our careers page to find out more about why we love working here.
