The NZDF medical officer provides high-quality care to defence personnel at home, on exercise, and on operations. This generalist role includes primary care, occupational medicine, sports / musculoskeletal medicine, expeditionary medicine, prehospital medicine, and acute care, applicable on land, sea, or air.
NZDF offers opportunities to develop skills in areas like Dive Medicine and Aviation Medicine, which are available across services.

The Army provides a Fellowship training program towards the Royal NZ College of General Practice fellowship, with options for other disciplines such as sports, occupational, and emergency medicine.

Training and benefits :
12 weeks of initial training at Waiouru Military Camp, starting in early January. Training modules are required for Regular Force Officer Cadets; Reserve Cadets attend select modules.
