    About the Role

    We have a full time, fixed term opportunity available for a Senior Advisor, Health Promotion Directorate, National Public Health Service (NPHS), with a focus on minimising gambling harm. The Health Promotion workforce sit within both the Promotion National Office, and the Regional Directorates of the NPHS. Our team provides a comprehensive health promotion approach is influenced by international and national best practice models such as Te Pae Māhutonga (Durie, 1999) and the Ottawa Charter (WHO, 1986).

    In this role, the Senior Advisor - Health Promotion is an intermediate level health promotion role, with developed health promotion expertise, community and stakeholder relationships, cultural capability, digital, written and oral communication skills, and a sound understanding of health inequalities and communities of need. The role is to support the delivery of health promotion actions as part of the Strategy to Prevent and Minimise Gambling Harm 2025 / 26 – 2027 / 28.

    The role will provide an opportunity to work with multi-disciplinary areas within Te Whatu Ora, National Public Health Service (NPHS), Hauora Māori Service, Hauora Māori Tūmatanui, Pacific Public Health, and external stakeholders / partners including Minimising Gambling Harm services.

    You will also provide insights, and evaluation to measure and track progress on health promotion activities which enable, achieve and sustain positive impacts on health outcomes and equity.

    About the Team / Service / Location

    The NPHS within Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora, work towards Pae Ora (healthy futures) for all by engaging with the wider determinants that impact people's health, focusing on oranga / wellbeing, prevention, protection, and population-level intervention. We are connected across boundaries to deliver public health services that are nationally planned, regionally delivered and locally tailored.

    About you

    Our ideal candidate will have proven experience in Public Health and Health Promotion service planning and delivery. You are confident working in a fast-paced environment and getting ‘stuck in' with a range of work. You have the ability to draw on relevant longer-term experience specific to the job and work demands. You have proven experience in an advisory role, applying critical thinking and using sound judgement to develop options and provide advice.

    • A relevant tertiary qualification, and a minimum of four years' experience or, a minimum of seven years' appropriate equivalent experience
    • Experience, knowledge and skills in relation to working with Māori and Pasifika peoples / communities / stakeholders
    • Experience in implementing and evaluating Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles into work
    • A good understanding of the ability to work in a culturally and ethically safe way with a range of communities and stakeholders
    • Proven relationship management and influencing skills
    • Some leadership experience, that may include having designed and managed a project of work and resources
    • Project management and administration skills, effectively coordinating multiple activities and ability to plan and monitor outcome achievement
    • Experience and knowledge of working with minimisation gambling harm approaches is desirable
