About the role

As a regional council, we are responsible for managing natural resources including air, soil, water and land. We work in partnership with mana whenua Ngāi Tahu to protect the health of our environment to ensure a sustainable and prosperous future for our region. The region’s evolving environmental and political context means we will continue to be agile and adaptive, as we respond to regulatory and environmental changes.

Our mahi (work) is organised around the delivery of our three core services : Environmental Regulation and Protection; Community Preparedness and Response to Hazards; Public Transport.

The Resource Management Officer role sits within our South Canterbury team and consists of a mix of both office and field-based work. This role has a focus on proactively engaging with communities and customers, resource users, rūnanga, and stakeholders to support real change in the on-the-ground management of natural resources. This role provides challenge and excitement. This role has a key focus on developing and maintaining relationships, with the aim to enhance and increase service delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain relationships with key customers, partners and stakeholders
  • Ability to interpret legal information and confidently apply this within a structured legal framework
  • Apply a continuous improvement and solutions mindset
  • Collaborate and engage with other projects, teams and colleagues
  • Provide input and support the development of colleagues and others

Qualifications

  • You’ll have a relevant tertiary qualification, or at least one to three years’ equivalent relevant work experience, in science, engineering, or environmental management
  • Must hold a full Class 1 driver’s licence
