About Us

The Fred Hollows Foundation NZ works in the Pacific where an estimated nine out of ten people who are blind don’t need to be because their condition is preventable or treatable. We work with governments, Ministries of Health, and universities to restore sight to the needlessly blind and vision impaired, train local eye health specialists to provide eye care services in their own communities and work to strengthen local health systems so that everyone can access quality eye care.

The Foundation continues the work of a legendary New Zealander, the late Professor Fred Hollows. Fred was an internationally acclaimed eye surgeon and social justice activist who championed the right of all people to high quality and affordable eye care.

The Role

Reporting to the Group Financial Controller and supervising the Administration & Accounts Payable Officer, the Senior Financial Accountant will manage the NZ ledger, overseeing key accounting functions, financial reporting, and process improvements, while ensuring the integrity and efficiency of our financial systems.

Key Responsibilities include :

  • Financial Management & Reporting : Oversee financial transactions, prepare accurate management accounts, and ensure compliance with accounting standards.
  • Accounts Payable : Manage accounts payable ensuring invoices are paid in an accurate and timely basis.
  • Audit & Compliance : Ensure all financial activities meet regulatory requirements, prepare audits, and manage tax obligations.
  • Cashflow & Forecasting : Monitor cashflow, optimize fund management, and support forecasting processes to ensure financial stability.
  • Leadership & Process Improvement : Provide mentorship to finance staff, streamline financial processes, and enhance system efficiencies.
  • Payroll : Process payroll and ensure all statutory requirements are met.

    • About you :

    Every member of The Foundation brings something unique to the table. Here is what we are looking for with this role :

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance (current CA status preferred) with at least 6 years in a senior financial accounting role.
  • Strong understanding of accounting standards, tax regulations, payroll processing, and statutory compliance.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (being a Xero super user will be an advantage), payroll systems, and Microsoft Excel, with strong problem-solving abilities.
  • A team player, with an aptitude to mentor team members, collaborate cross-functionally, and clearly communicate financial insights.
  • A high level of professionalism, discretion, and ethical responsibility in financial management.
