Our mahi (work) is organised around the delivery of our three core services : Environmental Regulation and ProtectionCommunity Preparedness and Response to HazardsPublic TransportKorero mo te Turanga | About the RolesRole one – Water Quality Science Technician – Fixed-Term 4.5 monthsAs a Water Quality Science Technician, your key focus will be to use a variety of methods and equipment to obtain data relating to the water quality and ecology of our aquatic environments.

This includes sampling water chemistry, clarity, periphyton and sediment at our long-term sites, as well as collecting and identifying macroinvertebrates to support summer monitoring programmes.

This role will be 40 hours per week, fixed term for 4.5 months and based out of our Christchurch Office at 200 Tuam St.Role two – Hydrology Science Technician – Fixed-Term 12 months parental leave coverAs a Hydrology Science Technician, you'll focus on collecting hydrology and rainfall data to support our hydrometric network.

This includes maintaining field stations, monitoring water levels and performing flow gaugings to develop discharge relationships that inform flood warnings, low flow alerts, and science advice.

This role will be 40 hours per week, fixed term for 12 months and based out of our Kainga Office at 1330 Main North Rd.For both roles you will require an understanding of sampling methodologies, technical skill, problem solving and common sense.

You will also undertake quality assurance processes that ensure our data is the best it can be.

This includes calibration and validation of instrumentation to verify data accuracy, data upload and processing, assessing datasets for errors and investigating anomalies, and archiving to databases.About YouTo Be Successful You Will DemonstrateA positive and inclusive team attitudeGood communication and relationship building skillsAttention to detail and a methodical natureInitiative and self-motivationAdaptability and resilienceThe ability to identify, investigate and resolve data issuesThe vision to develop and improve processesYou will need to have a qualification in a relevant field or previous on the job experience, and a clean class 1 drivers license.

This position could require overnight stays and some work outside of normal hours.

It is essential you have a high level of competence working outdoors, and around water in a variety of weather conditions, together with a proven ability to make sound decisions that ensure the safety of yourself and others.
