Designation
Supervising Editor, CNA Digital (Commentaries and Podcasts)
Responsibilities
- CNA Digital is looking for a supervising editor to drive its daily commentary offerings and to help oversee its podcasts. The successful candidate will work closely with editors, commentators and podcast guests to develop content that is memorable, incisive, engaging and timely.
- Help to conceptualise compelling and insightful commentaries that both react quickly to the news cycle as well as set the agenda by providing analysis and focus on developing local and international issues.
- Cultivate, manage and work with a diverse stable of commentators both external and internal, who can meet the highest levels of CNA's editorial standards, and who can provide a range of opinions and astute insights.
- Commission, schedule and edit daily commentary pieces, as well as write one on occasion, and ensure their amplification through strategic crafting of headlines and blurbs.
- Keep a finger on the pulse of what issues matter to CNA's audience, through attention to data analytics and social listening posts.
- Provide editorial guidance and leadership to the podcast team, working closely with the senior editor who oversees the day-to-day operations.
Qualifications
At least 10 years of working experience in journalism, public policy or academia, with at least four years of running a team in a fast-paced environment.A well-rounded understanding of a wide spectrum of global and local issues - able to toggle easily between business, geo-political, social, cultural and public policy topics - with a knack for knowing how to turn those issues into interesting commentary and analysis, as well as podcast conversations.Be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, and have an intrinsic knack for knowing which conversations matter, and the questions that may emerge from breaking news.Excellent writing skills with strong editing ability to identify shortcomings in argument, language, style and flow.Must be able to work closely and collaboratively with external contributors and the CNA Digital news teams.A wide professional network to draw on for a broader range of commentary and podcast contributors.Some experience of podcasts, with an awareness of what goes into a successful product.Strong leadership, interpersonal and organisational skills.A willingness to work as needed according to editorial priorities. While this role generally follows office hours, there will be the need to work some weekends, public holidays and into the evening to ensure output is timely.#J-18808-Ljbffr
