Overview

We're looking for a confident and experienced Employee Relations Specialist to help shape a safe, inclusive, and high-performing workplace.

You'll be a trusted advisor to our People & Culture team and leaders, providing expert, compliant, and pragmatic ER / IR advice that supports both people and performance.

In this role, you'll manage a mix of business-as-usual and complex ER cases, deliver strategic advice on employment matters, and partner closely with leaders to proactively address emerging ER themes.

You'll support enterprise-wide initiatives like M&A, compliance, union engagement, and policy development, all while ensuring we stay aligned with legislation, best practice, and our values.

Your work will directly influence how we build a future-focused, people-first organisation — and you'll play a key role in creating a workplace where everyone can thrive.

This is a permanent opportunity to be based in Tamaki Makaurau (Auckland) or Otautahi (Christchurch).

Responsibilities

Manage a mix of business-as-usual and complex ER cases

Deliver strategic advice on employment matters

Partner closely with leaders to proactively address emerging ER themes

Support enterprise-wide initiatives like M&A, compliance, union engagement, and policy development

Ensure alignment with legislation, best practice, and our values

Contribute to building a future-focused, people-first organisation and create a workplace where everyone can thrive

Qualifications

Experience providing employee relations advice, ideally in a commercial organisation of significant complexity and / or across multiple jurisdictions

Proven ability to translate complex and technical employee relations issues into pragmatic and plain language solutions

Proven ability to advise on the people components of business transactions and projects

Ability to work autonomously and proactively, as well as part of a high performing team

Strategic mindset – able to anticipate employee relations issues and take an active approach resolving them

Courage and ability to challenge and influence stakeholders

Demonstrated experience coaching and upskilling leaders and HR practitioners in employee relations issues

Proven ability to actively keep abreast of changes in external environment and translate into internal environment

Proven ability to work collaboratively across whole of function and broader group to reach common approach

Mediation and settlement expertise

5-8+ years ER or employment law experience

Experience working across Australian and New Zealand

Experience at a leading global or ASX top 50 company
