Research Fellow (Pavement Design and Modelling)

Location : Kent Ridge Campus

Job Description

The National University of Singapore (NUS) Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering invites applications for a Research Fellow position focused on mechanistic-empirical asphalt pavement design with a focus on new materials and sensor incorporation.

The candidate will work on projects funded by the National Research Foundation of Singapore (NRF), Land Transport Authority (LTA), and Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) under the supervision of Associate Professor Ong Ghim Ping Raymond.

The role involves fundamental and translational research to develop new asphalt pavement design guidelines tailored to local context.

Responsibilities

Perform laboratory and field experiments on asphalt pavements, focusing on functional and environmental performance.

Work on mechanistic empirical pavement design and balanced mix design standard development.

Model pavement behaviors using analytical and numerical methods with the goal of modifying design guidelines to suit local conditions.

Develop state-of-the-art solutions for high-performance pavement systems and collaborate with contractors and agencies to ensure commercial viability.

Manage research project progress, grant administration, and finance.

Execute other relevant tasks set out by the project principal investigator.

Job Requirements

Applicants should have a PhD in civil engineering or a related area.

Applicants with experience in experimental and field asphalt pavement design, standard development, and construction are favorably considered; candidates without experience are welcome to apply.

Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to present research findings in publications and professional meetings.

Open to a fixed-term contract.
