Job description

Permanent Full Time role (1 FTE, 34 hours per week)

Our School of Health & Counselling is seeking a highly motivated Counsellor to join our team as a Lecturer in the Bachelor of Applied Counselling programme. This programme is grounded in a pluralist and person-centred approach to counselling and is guided by the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, ensuring culturally responsive and inclusive practice.

You will teach and support students in a blended learning environment, which requires extensive involvement in both online and onsite classes. The role includes facilitating engaging learning experiences, integrating pluralist and person-centred counselling approaches, and embedding Te Tiriti principles throughout teaching and practice.

We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated person who has the drive and passion for teaching excellence. A tertiary Teaching Qualification at Level 5 or NCALE (vocational) will be beneficial in this exciting opportunity.

Ideal Skills and experience

  • Minimum of 3 years’ counselling practice experience or significant counselling experience
  • Current membership with NZAC or NZCCA
  • A background in teaching or strong passion for embarking on a teaching career
  • A Master’s qualification in counselling or a relevant field (or working towards one)
  • An adult teaching qualification at Level 5 or above
  • Excellent communication, time management, and organisational skills
  • Commitment to bicultural practice and a strong understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles
  • Ability to teach effectively in a blended delivery model (online and onsite)
  • Deliver high-quality teaching in the Bachelor of Applied Counselling programme
  • Support students in developing practical counselling skills and theoretical knowledge
  • Contribute to curriculum development, assessment, and moderation processes
  • Participate in team meetings and professional development activities
  • Active involvement in research
