This is a drive in, drive out opportunity from nearby Dunedin or Oamaru, each with stunning landscapes, adventures and beaches to explore. For the more adventurous, Queenstown is just a 3 hour drive, offering endless activities to enjoy on your days off.
Working an 8 days on, 6 days off daytime only roster, the Senior Geologist will provide technical leadership in the design and execution of near-mine exploration programs whilst ensuring HS&E compliance. This role focuses on supervising drilling, mentoring junior staff, and delivery of quality geological data that informs geological models.
The position holder may be required to work in operational areas of the mine as well as in the field. They are expected to develop productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Training and professional development will be provided to ensure efficient and effective performance of duties.
Key Tasks And Responsibilities
- Champion compliance to Quality Assurance and Quality Control procedures.
- Manage geological logging and sampling of drill core and RC chips.
- Manage the execution of and assist in the design of drilling programs, supervising contractors when required.
- Ensure sample intervals are representative and chain of custody of samples are auditable / traceable.
- Ensure that the core shed storage facilities, stores and equipment meet the work area standard and are in good order.
- Review SOPs and updated when required.
- Assist with the interpretation of geochemical and geological data.
- Assist with weekly / monthly reports and regulatory submissions, as required.
- Support resource modelling and estimation efforts.
- Share wisdom, knowledge and experience with team to encourage increased performance.
Qualifications
A degree in geology is essential. Honours or postgraduate qualification, would be highly regarded.Full and Current Driver Licence. Ability to drive manual vehicles is preferred.Experience
Ideally more than 5 year’s postgraduate experience in a Brownfields exploration environment.Management of multiple rigs in near mine environments.Experience in logging both diamond core and RC chips.Previous experience in a supervisory role well regardedAdditional Information
