Overview

Join a team dedicated to maintaining and improving our unique biodiversity, recreation and historic places for our community and visitors to enjoy!

Salary : $60,703 to $66,911. Full time, 6-month fixed term or secondment role, based in Porirua.

About the role

In this role, you\'ll play a key part in delivering meaningful conservation work across the district from the front country sites to the offshore islands. From maintaining tracks and facilities, to assisting the biodiversity team, your work will help preserve and enhance the natural heritage of the Kapiti Wellington district.

The position will be focused on :

  • Track cutting, mowing lawns, and cleaning and maintaining assets
  • Perform basic repairs and maintenance in both front and back country
  • Biodiversity initiatives including biosecurity and weed control
  • Participating in team safety briefings and taking responsibility for your safety and the safety of your teammates every day.

Skills and experience

We’re looking for someone who is practical, adaptable, and solutions-focused — someone who can think on their feet and remain calm under pressure. You’ll need to be physically fit and comfortable working in outdoor environments, in varying weather conditions.

If you have some of following, we are keen to hear from you :

  • Full New Zealand Driver\'s Licence is essential.
  • Off track navigation and GPS skills.
  • Skills to perform basic repairs, track cutting and amenities maintenance.
  • Predator and weed control experience.
  • High fitness level with backcountry experience.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong health and safety focus.
  • Tech savvy with ability to learn new systems.
  • Understanding of Tikanga Māori cultural perspectives and values.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in challenging environments.
  • Experience and / or qualifications with chainsaws, scrub bars, 4WDS, LUV.
  • Ability and flexibility to at times stay away for up to a week.
  • First Aid Certificate.

    The salary range for this position is $60,703 to $66,911 with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience.

    You are encouraged to discuss secondment opportunities with your manager. Secondments should offer the opportunity to build capability in line with your development plan. You must seek the support of your line manager (minimum Tier 4) in writing before applying for a secondment opportunity and attach it to your application.

    Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory – this includes holding a valid work visa that covers the whole period of employment.
