The Department of Paediatrics and Child Health (Dunedin) has a long and proud tradition for teaching and research.

Our department hosts a number of internationally recognised experts in a wide range of fields, and hosts the New Zealand Child and Youth Epidemiology Service, the New Zealand Paediatric Surveillance Unit, and the National Mortality Review Data Group.

The role / Te mahi

We are seeking a Teaching Fellow to join the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health, based in Dunedin.

The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating and delivering clinical skills education to medical students across a range of paediatric settings, including hospital wards, outpatient clinics, and community health centres.

Teaching Fellows provide a key point of contact for academic queries from students, assisting with tutoring and pastoral care.

This is an exciting opportunity to work closely with staff from Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora and community providers such as Plunket and Tamariki Ora.

Your skills and experience / Ka Pukeka Me Ka Wheako

The successful candidate will have excellent record keeping skills, written and verbal communication skills, and experience in using a range of software including Microsoft Office.

A healthcare professional qualification (nursing / medical qualification preferable)

Aptitude for effective teaching at tertiary level

Excellent interpersonal skills

Ability to work well with students and staff from differing academic and cultural backgrounds and at all levels of the institution

Ability to work positively with children and parents of children with ongoing health needs

Able to maintain a professional approach while under pressure

Experience in child health is preferable

This is a part-time (0.5 FTE), fixed-term position until November

  • based in Otepoti, Dunedin.

The salary range for Teaching Fellow $98,583 to $105,898 per annum.

As a part-time position, the salary range for this role will be the pro-rata equivalent of the annual full-time salary range listed.
