Mo te tunga | About the role

This role sits in Headquarters Defence Logistics Command, that supports the greater NZDF supply chain and warehousing operations.

As the Unit's SME in hazardous substances – class 1 (explosives), you will be responsible for :

  • Undertaking complex analysis and development of Hazardous Substances – Class 1 policy options to be adopted by the NZDF.
  • Planning, leading and managing the Hazardous Substances Class 1 regulatory programme.
  • Assist planning and the delivery of the Hazardous Substances training programme.
  • Providing technical control and peer review of the NZDF Hazardous Substances - Class 1 Prime Delegates.
  • Providing authoritative policy and regulatory advice to Commanders and Managers.
  • Initiating, building and maintaining positive working relationships across the NZDF, and with the broader hazardous substances Government and industry sector.

Once you are assessed as competent, there exists the option for flexible working arrangements (this includes working out of a military Base or Camp, working from home, flex hours, etc)

This is a very specialised role requiring you must have detailed technical knowledge of and competency in the management of hazardous substances – class 1 (explosives).

You will also have :

  • technical knowledge of RADHAZ / HERO.
  • general technical knowledge of and competency in the management of Class 2-9 hazardous substances.
  • Working knowledge of all relevant legislation pertinent to hazardous substances.
  • You will also have very strong interpersonal skills as you will need to relate to a variety of both Military and Civilian personnel, be confident in your presentation skills.

    Ideally you would have a Military background so you can meet these key skills and knowledge.

    This role requires you to travel to other camps and bases throughout New Zealand, you may be away from your home-base for a few days at a time.

    You need to have a Class 1 Full Driver's Licence.

    Here's what you need to know :

    Higher Level Security Clearance

  • You must be a New Zealand citizen or you must hold New Zealand Permanent Residence or have a current New Zealand Residency Class Visa.
  • At minimum, you must hold New Zealand Permanent Residence or have a current New Zealand Residency Class Visa, and you must be a citizen of and have lived in Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, United States of America or New Zealand continuously for the last ten (10) years.
  • You must have a ten (10) year background history that can be verified and assessed appropriately by the NZ Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) to determine if you are suitable for a security clearance at this level.
  • If you do not meet the minimum criteria, unfortunately, your application will not be accepted.
