About the Role
We’re looking for a Automation Engineer who can turn ideas into intelligent digital solutions. You’ll sit at the intersection of software development, process analysis, and AI innovation, helping our teams work smarter through automation, data integration, and emerging technologies.
Your work will directly improve our internal platforms and workflows across Webjet NZ’s brands — from process automation and system integrations to AI‑driven process improvements.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with stakeholders to map and analyse business workflows, identifying automation opportunities and technical improvements.
- Design, develop, and deploy automation solutions — using tools like Microsoft Power Platform, Python, JavaScript, Node.js, or APIs.
- Build system integrations and data flows that connect platforms and enhance reliability and performance.
- Experiment with and apply AI technologies such as OpenAI, Azure Cognitive Services, or custom ML models to optimise processes.
- Lead testing (UAT), deployment, and monitoring of automations, ensuring they perform reliably in production.
- Act as a technical subject matter expert on automation frameworks, sharing best practices and guiding adoption.
- Document solutions clearly and support change management to drive uptake across teams.
- Stay ahead of automation and AI trends, recommending new tools and approaches for continuous improvement.
About You
You’re a technical problem‑solver who enjoys both analysis and hands‑on engineering. You think in systems, automate relentlessly, and love experimenting with the latest AI and automation tools.
You'll bring
Experience in scripting, API integration, or process automation (e.g. Power Automate, UiPath, Zapier, custom scripts).Hands‑on development experience with Python, JavaScript, SQL, or similar languages.Understanding of data pipelines, system architecture, and API‑driven integrations.Exposure to or interest in AI technologies (e.g., ChatGPT API).Analytical mindset with strong problem‑solving and debugging skills.Collaborative, agile working style — comfortable experimenting, testing, and iterating.Clear communication skills for explaining complex technical solutions in plain language.Experience gathering and documenting business requirements.Process mapping and modelling skills.About Us
