What's the role?

We are recruiting Fruit Monitoring Technicians to conduct on-vessel fruit conditioning and ethylene monitoring of Zespri Kiwifruit as it travels to our main markets.

Voyages are international and are two to four weeks in duration.

Key responsibilities will include :

Conducting testing and assessment of kiwifruit and / or air sampling.

Accurately recording and communicating all results of fruit tests and assessments to the Continuing Operations and Technical Teams.

Maintaining accurate and current records of tests, associated results, and instructions received.

Maintaining clear communication with the operations team and team lead.

Adhering to all health and safety standards set by Zespri.

Key Dates & Availability :

Training & induction : Scheduled for February

  • in Tauranga.

Voyage season : March to May

  • (each voyage lasting 2-4 weeks).
  • Applicants must be available for the full training and voyage period.

    Who are you?

    The position requires flexibility and adaptability, as technicians may need to respond quickly to unexpected changes in fruit condition or voyage schedules.

    You should be comfortable troubleshooting, monitoring equipment and collaborating with team members to resolve challenges in real time.

    Previous experience in quality control or post-harvest fruit handling is advantageous, but comprehensive training will be provided to ensure you are equipped for success in this unique role.

    This role is ideal for someone who builds strong relationships and communicates confidently with people from all backgrounds and cultures.

    This is a fast-paced, hands-on work environment so you will need to bring a positive, team-focused attitude to your work.

    You'll have intermediate keyboard and computer skills, with experience using Microsoft applications (Excel, Outlook and Teams), strong attention to detail and the ability to follow SOP's and safety protocols precisely.

    To be successful, you'll need to meet maritime medical certificate and physical health screening requirements as outlined in the Job Description and determined by a medical practitioner.

    You'll also need to demonstrate :

    The ability to perform daily tasks with energy and strength, including safely balancing and climbing ladders (up to 5 flights), and lifting fruit samples and gas cylinders (approx. 20kg) in and out of a vessel's hold at sea.

    Confidence working underdeck in confined spaces, where temperatures may drop to -1°C and visibility is limited.

    Comfort spending extended periods away from home, working independently with limited communication access (no internet while at sea).
