Mt Difficulty is one of Central Otago’s most well-known and respected wine brands. Founded in 1998, it has produced exemplary Pinot Noir and aromatic white wines from its winery in Bannockburn under its eponymous label, as well as the Roaring Meg brand. Sourcing fruit from some of the region’s original plantings, Mt Difficulty is a storied wine company with a desire to produce iconic Central Otago wines.

About the role

We are looking for a passionate and motivated person who has experience in winery labs to join our small winery team for the 2026 Vintage period. You will organise, carry out and record the day-to-day hands-on functions of all laboratory operations during this time. Outside of lab work, you will be involved in normal winery operations through the harvest period.

Starting in mid-February 2026, this role would continue through until the middle of June 2026, depending on the season. Normal working week of 40 hours, increasing over the harvest period to a maximum of 6 x 12-hour shifts. In this role you will work closely with the Assistant Winemaker, who oversees daily operations.

The successful applicant will need :

• 1-2 years experience in a winery laboratory
• Experience working in a winery cellar
• Great attention to detail and a safety-first mindset
• Competency in Excel spreadsheets
• A practical approach to solving problems and a can-do attitude
• A reasonable level of fitness appropriate for the physical demands of the role
