The role | Te tūnga

We have a 20-hour per week, fixed-term Statistical and Data Technician role within our Complex Business and Processing Support unit. The role covers topics including financial, economic and social data. You will transform data to a more usable, value-added state so it can be used in our statistical production process. Responsibilities include loading data, data editing, data sourcing, classification, validation, checking, shaping and data confrontation. The aim is to get data to inform important decisions in Aotearoa, ensuring our data is ready for the next step. You will work with a team of analysts and technicians to ensure our statistical releases, and accompanying editorial, are world-class in quality, design, and appearance. The role can be based in Wellington or Christchurch.

  • Curiosity, with a passion for troubleshooting, process improvements, and innovation
  • Experience working with data / information, and the ability to apply technical checking skills
  • Self-starter with the capability and willingness to adapt to new tools and systems quickly
  • Ability to work well in a team and form effective relationships with a range of people
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; confident in presenting your work in plain English
  • Experience using or willingness to learn programming languages
  • Knowledge or commitment to developing understanding of Te Tiriti, Tikanga, Te Reo, Te Ao Māori
