Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity

  • This is a permanent, full-time role – 44 hours per week (42.5 hours per week (office hours) and 1.5 hours (average after- hours component)
  • This role offers great variety.
  • You will work with several specialists both internally and externally and have the ability to maintain excellent working relationships.

  • This is a job where no two days are ever the same; you will see the full spectrum of psychiatry from enduring mental illness through to trauma, grief and distress
  • You will work with supportive and caring colleagues within a close-knit team
  • Key responsibilities of the role :

  • Provide quality clinical services to older people within Te Whatu Ora Waikato boundaries
  • As a clinical expert, you will ensure that the appropriate and current knowledge, skills, and attitudes in the area of psychiatry, are applied to clinical situations and team decision making
  • Participate in clinical partnership to ensure that tangata whaiora and their whanau receive integrated, appropriate, effective, and efficient assessment and care

    Skills and experience you'll need to be considered for the role :

  • A Psychiatrist who is vocationally registered or eligible for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
  • A versatile and flexible clinician who has a passion for working as part of a team
  • A person who is excited about and willing to contribute participate in service enhancement
  • A clinician who is passionate about eliminating health inequities

    We are the Mental Health and Addictions Service arm of Health New Zealand | Te Whatu - Waikato.

    The Mental Health Service for Older Persons (MHSOP) is a secondary specialist service for people over 65 years of age living in the Waikato District.

    Older people with functional and organic conditions, co-existing mental health and physical health needs or substance use problems benefit from this service.

    The service includes a community team and an inpatient unit (OPR1) and provide a cohesive integrated service with medical staff working across both settings.

    The service has established links with aged care facilities.

    The service is family and whanau inclusive.
