This strategic leadership role champions the resilience, reliability, and efficiency of Environment Canterbury's digital foundations.
Reporting to the General Manager Digital, you'll oversee IT service delivery, infrastructure and platforms, and contract governance—ensuring alignment with organisational goals and community outcomes.
You'll lead two Team Leaders and a Contracts Management Advisor, providing oversight, assurance, and strategic direction across these functions.
Key responsibilities
Lead and align IT service delivery, infrastructure teams
Driving strategic alignment and prioritisation across digital functions
Champion service excellence, ensuring IT services meet organisational needs
Provide assurance on service and vendor risks, performance and outcomes
Promote continuous improvement and a culture of excellence within teams
Ensure robust incident, change, and security management
Champion IT service management and ITIL best practices across all IT operations
Support capability development within IT teams

You're a seasoned digital leader who has operated across complex environments.
To be successful in this role, you'll bring prior experience leading other leaders and operating at a strategic, cross-organisation level.
You are comfortable stepping back from operational delivery to focus on alignment, governance, prioritisation, coaching, and influencing direction.
With a strong background in IT infrastructure, service delivery, and vendor management.
You bring a strategic mindset and a collaborative approach, thriving in environments where resilience, reliability, and service excellence are paramount.
You're passionate about enabling organisational success through robust digital services and championing best practices.
10+ years' senior leadership experience in IT or digital services
Extensive background in IT infrastructure, service delivery, and vendor management
Demonstrated ability to lead other leaders and manage cross-functional teams to achieve strategic goals
Experience in IT governance, infrastructure, risk mgmt.
and contract oversight
Demonstrated success in driving operational efficiency, reliability, and customer satisfaction

Hours of work
– Permanent full-time position 40 hours per week – From time to time, as required, the role may require work outside of normal work hours for emergency and flood response and to represent Environment Canterbury at meetings and events with partners, other agencies, and the community.
Location
This position is predominantly based at 200 Tuam Street, Christchurch.
Salary
The indicitive salary range for role is $118,848 to $146,812 per annum depending on skills and experience.
The specific salary will be discussed at interview stage.
