Associate, Climate Resilience

  • Make a difference, providing climate risk and adaptation consulting services to elevate climate change related considerations, supporting clients understanding and reporting across enterprise and project risks
  • Work across a variety of climate resilience consulting projects and client sectors, elevating climate risk considerations across infrastructure, local government, central government, and the private sector
  • Significant career development opportunities, learning from Beca’s technical experts to grow your climate resilience, consulting, project delivery, and client management abilities

Te whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

Be at the forefront of climate action in New Zealand and the Pacific by joining Beca’s national Strategic Advisory team, contributing to the provision of climate risk and adaptation consulting services throughout Beca. You will be working with a passionate team providing climate change advice ranging from high-level corporate strategies through to practical tangible recommendations across a vast array of engineering and planning projects. You will have the scope to utilise the vast and collective expertise developed over 100+ years within Beca across multiple disciplines, to turn actions into reality offering our clients’ end‑to‑end solutions like few others can.

At Beca you will have the opportunity to truly make a difference to clients’ climate change related challenges. You will be supporting clients to enhance climate resilience in their organisations and communities. You will have the opportunity to contribute to the values and culture of the wider Strategic Advisory team, as well as sharing and building on your technical experience and knowledge.

As an Associate – Climate Resilience, you will be working in a complex and fast‑paced environment tackling climate change risk and adaptation. You will be partnering with our clients, developing an understanding of their business, their goals and objectives to then provide robust and pragmatic solutions to shape a resilient future. Our clients are spread across New Zealand, Australia and the Pacific, and you will contribute to a range of sectors including local and central government, transport, water, energy and defence.

You will be leading projects and coaching juniors, as well as leading data collection and technical analysis, workshop facilitation and preparing reports. You will have the opportunity to think analytically and holistically about broad outcomes, and to relate those areas to corporate, local and central government clients. An ability to listen, question, and analyse to provide a considered view and solution will be important. Skills in translating complex issues into simple language and excellent report writing will be required as well as managing delivery of complex projects working across disciplines. You will be supported by our climate resilience specialists providing space to test your ideas and methodologies, and you will be empowered to lead and execute delivery of risk assessments (using desktop risk management frameworks or spatial tools) and adaptation plans (using a range of techniques including scenario planning and dynamic adaptive planning pathways). You will also have a role in growing and maintaining a key client base and working on proposals and bids to grow the climate resilience offering within Beca.

In this role, you will be backed by Beca’s subject‑matter experts across a range of environmental, engineering, design, digital, sustainability, cultural and project delivery practice areas and have access to our wealth of industry knowledge and established client relationships. This role offers opportunity to shape resilient futures for our communities and to develop your consulting career and expertise in a rapidly growing practice.

Ko wai koe | About you

This role will enable you to bring your passion for climate change, combining it with your existing experience and expertise, to solve real world client problems. You will enjoy working with diverse clients to understand their needs and can work collaboratively to shape resilient outcomes. You will be motivated and ready to grow your career, building on your knowledge, consulting, and professional skills and be looking to establish and build enduring relationships with clients. Our team works collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment. Overall, you will be excited by a challenge, working with ambiguity, in a growth focused business area that offers plenty of flexibility and variety.

This role could suit applicants with current consulting experience, or those from a government or policy agency or with wider industry climate change experience, who are looking to make a more diverse impact. Experience providing consulting or management services in climate change resilience will be important, or a background in a corporate or government role providing climate change resilience related services.

Skills

  • Direct experience in leading climate adaptation or climate risk initiatives in New Zealand or the Pacific (or another relevant market)
  • Be credible, comfortable and effective in communicating your knowledge and expertise on climate change
  • Ability to engage with clients leading to successful pursuit, bidding and winning of project commissions, and experience in growing or developing a service offering
  • Ability to lead and coach junior staff and work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams, often remotely
  • Be adaptable and versatile to the wide range of work, opportunities and projects
  • An ability to handle multiple workstreams or projects at the same time
  • Self‑directed, critically minded and a problem solver
  • Hold a relevant tertiary qualification across environmental science, engineering, planning, finance, economics, business, statistics, or other climate resilience related disciplines
