Job description

Warehouse Assistant - Addington / Rolleston

Transpower owns and operates the National Grid, transporting high-voltage electricity from where it's generated to homes, businesses, and communities across New Zealand.

As a key player in the electricity sector, we're enabling accelerated electrification and a sustainable, net carbon zero future.

About the team

Our Grid Delivery division oversees all work on New Zealand's transmission network, including project and maintenance activities carried out by our service providers.

Our warehouse teams, based across the country, play a crucial role in ensuring materials are available for grid maintenance and development projects.

About the opportunity – we're growing our team!

This is an exciting time to join us as we transition to our newly completed, state-of-the-art 10,000sqm warehouse in Rolleston, which will be fully operational by 31 March

You'll start in Addington, joining a team responsible for supplying service providers with materials for both project and maintenance work and ensuring inventory and warehouse operations run smoothly.

Reporting to the Warehouse Supervisor, you'll uphold high standards in material handling and stock control, ensuring timely deliveries to site.

No two days are the same, and you'll take ownership and responsibility as part of a small, dedicated team focused on delivering excellent service.

You'll be physically fit (lifting up to 20kg) and thrive in a role that includes :

Receiving and managing inwards goods

Picking, packing, and dispatching orders

Ensuring stock accuracy by maintaining correct bin locations in the system

Assisting with regular stock cycle counts

Carrying out visual inspections to check stock quality and ensure older items are used first (FIFO)

Keeping the warehouse tidy and organised

The environment

This isn't a typical warehouse.

We store high-value infrastructure items essential to New Zealand's power supply, including long lead-time equipment and some unusually large, heavy, or awkwardly shaped items.

Handling transformers, transmission parts, and heavy machinery means secure crating is essential.

You'll be responsible for building custom crates to protect these items, so you need to be confident using nail guns, skill saws, and other tools.

As you'd expect, safety comes first.

We follow strict Health & Safety standards to ensure a secure working environment for everyone.

About you

You're reliable, focused, and eager to get the job done.

With a hands-on approach and a willingness to learn, you'll bring a positive attitude and strong work ethic to our fast-paced environment.

You are a competent and licensed forklift operator, holding a Forklift Operator's Certificate (OSH) and, if driving on a road, an "F" endorsement on your driver's licence.

To be considered, your CV and cover letter must demonstrate :

Proven experience in warehousing or stock management

Competence in forklift operation with the necessary licences and familiarity with gantry cranes (training provided if required)A strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental (HSE) requirements

Confidence using Microsoft Outlook (emails) and Excel

While not essential, experience with inventory management systems, scanning devices, or devanning containers will be an advantage – let us know if you have it.

MPI training will be provided, and accreditation is required for the role.
