  • Work across a variety of climate resilience consulting projects and client sectors, elevating climate risk considerations across infrastructure, local government, central government, and the private sector
  • Significant career development opportunities, learning from Beca’s technical experts to grow your sustainability, consulting, project delivery, and client management abilities

The opportunity

Be at the forefront of climate action in New Zealand and the Pacific by joining Beca’s national Strategic Advisory team, contributing to the provision of climate adaptation and risk consulting services throughout Beca. You will be working with a passionate team providing climate change advice from high‑level corporate strategies through to practical tangible implementation across a vast array of projects. You will have the scope to utilise the vast and collective expertise developed over 100+ years within Beca across a multiple of disciplines, to turn actions into reality offering our clients’ end‑to‑end solutions like few others can.

At Beca you will have the opportunity to truly make a difference to clients’ climate change related challenges. You will be supporting clients to enhance climate resilience in their organisations and communities. You will have the opportunity to contribute to the values and culture of the wider Strategic Advisory team, as well as sharing and building on your technical experience and knowledge.

As a Senior Associate – Climate Resilience, you will be working in a complex and fast‑paced environment tackling climate change adaptation and climate risk. You will be partnering with our clients, developing an understanding of their business, their goals and objectives to then provide robust and pragmatic solutions to shape a resilient future together. Our clients are spread across New Zealand, Australia and the Pacific and you will have access to a range of sectors including local and central government, transport, water, energy and defence.

In this role you will have a key leadership role within the Climate Resilience team, technically leading projects and coaching juniors, as well as leading data analysis, workshop facilitation and preparing reports. You will largely work with New Zealand and Pacific clients and will be expected to leverage your extensive existing network to pursue climate resilience work to grow our offering into new markets and geographies. You will have the opportunity to think analytically and holistically about broad outcomes, and to relate those areas to corporate, local and central government clients. You will be able to translate complex issues into simple language and produce high quality outputs, as well as deliver multi‑disciplinary projects. You will be part of our senior climate resilience specialist cohort, contributing to business strategy and testing new ideas and methodologies. You will be empowered to lead and execute delivery of risk assessments (using desktop risk management frameworks or spatial tools), adaptation plans (using a range of techniques including scenario planning and dynamic adaptive planning pathways) and development of innovative techniques, offerings, methodologies and services.

In this role, you will be backed by Beca’s subject matter experts across a range of environmental, engineering, design, digital and project delivery practice areas and have access to our wealth of industry knowledge and established client relationships. This role offers opportunity to shape resilient futures for our communities and develop your sustainability consulting career and expertise in a rapidly growing practice.

About you

This role will enable you to bring your passion for climate change, combining it with your existing experience and expertise, to solve real world client problems. You will enjoy working with diverse clients to understand their needs and can work collaboratively to shape a service offering to best meet those needs. You will be motivated and ready to grow your career, building on your knowledge, consulting, and professional skills and be looking to establish and build new and enduring relationships with clients. Overall, you will be excited by a challenge, working with ambiguity, in a growth focused business area that offers plenty of flexibility and variety.

This role could suit applicants with current consulting experience, or those from a government or policy agency or with wider industry climate change resilience experience, who are looking to make a bigger impact. Experience providing consulting or management services in climate change risk and / or adaptation will be important, or a background in a corporate or government role providing sustainability or climate change related services.

Skills

  • Demonstrable technical experience in leading climate adaptation or climate risk initiatives in New Zealand or the Pacific (or another relevant market)
  • Be credible, comfortable and effective in communicating your knowledge and expertise on climate change
  • Ability to engage with clients leading to successful pursuit, bidding and winning of project commissions, and experience in growing or developing a service offering
  • Recognised expertise and network within the New Zealand or Pacific market in climate change advisory
  • Willingness to travel within New Zealand and internationally periodically
  • Ability to lead and coach junior staff and work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams, often remotely
  • Be adaptable and versatile to the wide range of work, opportunities and projects
  • An ability to handle multiple workstreams or projects at the same time
  • Highly motivated, self‑directed, critically minded and a problem solver
  • Hold a relevant tertiary qualification across environmental science, engineering, planning, finance, economics, business, statistics, or other climate resilience related disciplines
