The Trust focuses on safeguarding taonga species and matauranga Maori (Maori knowledge) impacted by the Wai 262 flora and fauna claim.
Their mission is to ensure Maori sovereignty over traditional knowledge and natural resources while addressing modern challenges like intellectual property rights, biopiracy, and environmental degradation.
Role Description
This is an on-site volunteer role located in Auckland.
The Volunteer will assist in various tasks including promoting cultural rights, conducting research on taonga species, aiding in educational outreach programs, and supporting environmental protection initiatives.
Responsibilities also include collaborating with the Maori community and contributing to the Trust's efforts in safeguarding traditional knowledge and natural resources.
Qualifications
Understanding and respect for Maori culture and traditions
Strong research and analytical skills
Experience in environmental conservation and education
Good communication and teamwork skills
Ability to work independently and on-site
Passion for protecting Indigenous rights and knowledge
Previous volunteer experience is a plus
Bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies, Sociology, Cultural Studies, or related field is beneficial
