About the role

The Anaesthetic Pre-Assessment Clinic at Te Whatu Ora Counties Manukau District is seeking a senior registered nurse with anaesthetic pre-assessment or similar experience to work as a Clinical Nurse Specialist. Our priority is managing the care of complex surgical patients and promoting quality and equitable outcomes through improved preparation for elective surgery, by utilising patient education and establishing shared health outcomes. This includes a focus on decreasing length of stay and readmission rates, reducing day of surgery cancellations, reducing patient anxiety, and improving patient safety. This role also provides an opportunity to develop improved service linkages across the organisation. This fixed term is funded with the aim to reduce assessment waiting times for our patients; however, our service is expanding in 2026 / 2027, with more senior nurse roles planned.

We welcome applications from registered nurses who possess :

  • Current surgical or relevant perioperative experience in a tertiary hospital
  • Have an interest in Perioperative Medicine
  • Have completed a postgraduate qualification at PGDip level or above
  • Ideally you will have the following :

  • Service development / audits / policy / quality & risk experience
  • Ability to work autonomously and in a small team
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Exceptional professional drive and determination to deliver exemplary patient assessment and care
  • Ability to engage with patients and whaanau to effectively guide and support them to undergo their elective surgery preparation
