This role is all about being a trusted partner to project managers and contractors, providing expert guidance, fostering a safety-first culture, and ensuring health and safety is integrated into every stage of project planning and delivery.Reporting into the Chief Health and Safety Officer and working closely with internal and external stakeholders, you'll lead H&S project assurance activities, assessing project risks and working alongside contractors to ensure compliance.

As part of the broader Health & Safety team at LPC you will contribute to strategic safety priorities, provide robust reporting, and ensure project teams are well supported to manage health and safety risks.About YouYou are an experienced health and safety professional with a strong background in infrastructure and contractor management, as well as in high-risk, operational environments.

Your Health & Safety leadership style will see you confidently work alongside senior leaders, contractors, and technical specialists.You bring both subject matter expertise and a partnership approach - someone who can lead, advise, and collaborate to ensure safe outcomes across all levels of a project.

You thrive in a role where your input is valued, your communication skills shine, and your ability to influence helps make a real difference to Health & Safety outcomes.The ideal candidate will bring : 7+ years of Health & Safety experience, including leadership in infrastructure, managing contractors in complex project environments.A tertiary qualification in Health and Safety (with relevant audit / compliance credentials)Strong working knowledge of NZ H&S legislation, ACOPs, and best practice guidelinesProven ability to lead risk assessments, safe work planning, and critical control assuranceDemonstrated experience in incident investigation and regulatory reportingConfidence managing contractor Health & Safety performance, SSSP reviews, and assurance activitiesExperience delivering on strategic Health & Safety initiatives while managing day-to-day project supportHigh emotional intelligence, professional credibility, and the ability to work autonomouslyNEOBOSH / OSH Diploma and accreditation to professional association for health and safety practitioners is highly desiredAbout LPCLyttelton Port Company (LPC) is the South Island's largest international trade gateway, focused on leading the way for our people and region.
