Intermediate Freshwater or Marine Ecologist – Tonkin + Taylor
Tonkin + Taylor is New Zealand's leading environmental and engineering consultancy.
We are seeking an intermediate freshwater or marine ecologist with 3-6 years of professional experience to join our diverse Ecology + Water Science consulting team.
Key Responsibilities
Provide scientific and ecological technical services across freshwater and marine ecosystems, including habitat assessment, mapping, water and sediment quality assessments, fauna surveys, and fauna salvage / relocation.
Collect, manage, analyze, and present ecological data.
Prepare technical reports, compliance reports, ecological management / restoration plans, and ecological impact assessment reports.
Plan, coordinate, and lead fieldwork activities with project teams.
Collaborate with internal teams across environmental geoscience, planning, geotechnical, civil, water, coastal, and environmental engineering.
Consider sustainability and nature-based solutions in project work.
Liaise with T+T staff, council personnel, clients and DOC representatives, engage with mana whenua and incorporate Matauranga Maori into project work.
Qualifications
Minimum bachelor's degree in Ecology, Zoology or related discipline, MSc desirable.
3-6 years of consulting, regulatory, or research experience.
Strong organisational and time-management skills; ability to manage competing demands in a fast-paced environment.
Experience preparing technical ecology reports, including compliance reports.
Proficiency in ecological data collection, management, record keeping, GPS, GIS, and digital mapping.
Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
Good communication abilities, capable of working collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
Experience leading a field team is preferable; comfort with remote and rough terrain.
Health & safety conscious, professional initiative, detail oriented.
Full NZ driver's licence.
Location
Full-time position based in Auckland with travel required and ability to work from other office locations.
