Our Executive Chef and kitchen leadership team are looking for passionate Commis Chefs with kitchen experience to join our dynamic team for the upcoming seasons. Ideal applicants will have prior experience as a Commis or be an experienced kitchen hand ready to develop. You will have experience in a comparable scale hotel or restaurant and be keen for a new, unique experience.

At The Hermitage Hotel, we offer our guests a variety of dining options through the summer, including the iconic Panorama Room, premier Alpine Restaurant, Sir Edmund Hillary Café, Snowline Bar, and the Chamois Bar and Grill. You may work in any or all of our outlets across a season, providing an exciting opportunity to broaden your culinary skills and experience.

What you will be doing

  • Working with colleagues in production to ensure smooth service.
  • Maintaining high guest satisfaction through preparing and serving quality dishes.
  • Exercising excellent time management for the consistent delivery of high-quality food and service.
  • Monitoring the quality of dishes at all stages of preparation, presentation, and service.
  • Maintaining a pleasant and safe working environment while ensuring efficiency in food preparation.
  • Upholding standards and demonstrating knowledge of all relevant Health and Safety standards, food safety plans (FSP), and food preparation regulations.

What you will bring to the role

  • Experience working in a fast-paced or high-production kitchen is essential, with six months or more preferred.
  • Culinary qualifications and education are preferred, and ability to converse in English.
  • A passion for food, food preparation, and guest experience.
  • Knowledge and commitment to food safety, quality, and standards.
  • A proactive, curious, and enthusiastic attitude.
  • Flexibility and willingness to adapt to the needs of the day.
  • The role and benefits

  • Full-time and permanent contract, working a minimum of 60 hours per fortnight, at $26 per hour.
  • Free access to all activities offered by the Hermitage Hotel after 8 weeks of service.
