Job description

Overview

K G Richardson Ltd is a locally owned and operated business providing financial, people, and safety expertise to a group of vertically integrated companies employing approximately 450 people. We are committed to being industry leaders while recognising and caring for the individuals who make up our team.

We have a rare and rewarding opportunity for a Health & Safety Manager to join our team and play a pivotal role in supporting rapid growth, diverse projects, and an expanding workforce across the timber, transport, and commercial property sectors. At K G Richardson, Health & Safety is practical, lived, and embedded into daily operations. We are looking for someone who will roll up their sleeves, engage with teams, and bring Health & Safety to life on the floor. Compliance is critical, but so is the ability to work flexibly in real-world situations.

We are prioritising the appointment of a proven leader, someone who brings dedication, integrity, collaboration, a hands-on approach, strong people management skills, and a deep understanding of production and business. In return, we will support your ongoing development in Health & Safety and help you grow your leadership capabilities.

What this role offers

  • A tangible impact across multiple businesses and industries.
  • On-site engagement with teams to identify risks and influence positive change.
  • Management of critical behind-the-scenes functions such as reporting, audits, compliance checks, and data insights.
  • The opportunity to develop and embed a positive safety culture across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain Health & Safety policies and procedures across the Group.
  • Lead audits and investigations to ensure best practice.
  • Translate legislation and policy into practical, workable processes.
  • Conduct inspections and risk assessments to identify and manage hazards.
  • Drive continuous improvement across multiple sites and operations.
  • Provide training, guidance, and support to employees at all levels.
  • Grow team capability and ownership of Health & Safety in their areas.
  • Report on Health & Safety performance, providing insights and recommendations to senior management and the Board.
  • Act as the primary contact for regulatory bodies and external auditors.
  • Promote and foster a positive safety culture throughout the organisation.
  • We are seeking a dedicated leader who can connect with people and drive positive change across multiple operations. You will be collaborative in your approach, building trust and fostering a strong, supportive culture, while remaining practical and comfortable translating policies into real-world solutions on the floor. Our ideal candidate has the skills and experience to make a genuine impact across our businesses. Relevant Health & Safety qualifications and operational experience with legislation and best practices are advantageous. However, if you bring proven leadership capability, a solid understanding of business operations, and the ability to influence and engage teams—along with a genuine interest in Health & Safety—we encourage you to apply.

    Why Join K G Richardson?

  • Work alongside leaders who respect and champion Health & Safety initiatives.
  • Enjoy a supportive culture that values integrity, collaboration, and excellence.
  • Competitive remuneration and a loyalty program recognising long service.
  • Annual Christmas functions for employees and their families.
  • Exclusive scholarship program available for employees’ children and grandchildren.
  • Secure employment with the opportunity to lead meaningful change and see the impact of your work every day.
  • The successful candidate will be supported by a passionate leadership team and a workforce that genuinely values Health & Safety.

Please submit your CV and cover letter online, including your experience and interest in this position. We’d also love to hear your perspective on Health & Safety, what excites you about it, and how you can contribute to our team.

Applications must be submitted online. Only candidates currently residing in, and eligible to work in, New Zealand will be considered.
