OverviewThe Department of Conservation Te Papa Atawhai (DOC) serves to protect and restore nature across Aotearoa.

The Department has recently made exciting changes in how we deliver our work to achieve conservation outcomes, including a new role : Senior Statutory Advisor.

Reporting to the Statutory and Community Manager, you'll work across the region providing subject matter expertise to advise and deliver on permissions, statutory and strategic issues resulting in better outcomes for conservation.

The position will be focussed on using your expertise to provide advice to resolve complex strategic issues and opportunities, contributing to the continuous improvement of our regulatory process as aligned to the region's work programme, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to support delivery of conservation in a statutory environment, and identifying critical issues and risks and ensuring they are managed effectively.Nga pukenga me nga wheako | Skills and experience If you have some of the following, we are keen to hear from you : A tertiary qualification in regulatory, statutory legal or a related fieldExperience in applying policy, statutory processes and legislation to assess risk, complexity and priorityAbility to interpret information and provide technical advice to applicants and stakeholdersExcellent communication skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlinesExperience applying Treaty settlement legalisation to inform statutory decisionsContinuous-improvement mindset, always seeking ways to improve systems and processesCollaborative team player, with mentoring experience and ability to manage relationships with various stakeholdersSolutions-focused and acting with integrity to deliver meaningful resultsUnderstanding of the Maori–Crown relationship in DOC's responsibilities and decision makingResponsibilitiesProvide expert advice to resolve complex strategic issues and opportunitiesContribute to continuous improvement of regulatory processes aligned to the region's work programmeCollaborate and maintain positive working relationships internally and externally to support conservation in a statutory environmentIdentify critical issues and risks and ensure they are managed effectivelyQualificationsA tertiary qualification in regulatory, statutory legal or related field (as above)Experience applying policy, statutory processes and legislation to assess risk and priorityAbility to interpret information and provide technical advice to applicants and stakeholdersStrong communication skills and multi-priority managementExperience with Treaty settlement legalisation to inform statutory decisionsCollaborative mindset and ability to mentor othersWhat we offer / Our valuesIntegrity, empowerment, connection, and achievement as core valuesA culture committed to being diverse, equitable and inclusive by defaultTonoa inaianei | Apply nowApply online with a CV and cover letter highlighting your relevant skills, experience and motivation for joining Te Papa Atawhai.

The salary range for this position is $92,912 - $117,570 with starting salary based on relevant skills and experience.
