Job description

Join OceanaGold as a Graduate Shift Geologist at Macraes Mine, contributing to ore delineation and resource optimization in a leading NZ mining operation.

Your Role

Here’s what you will be doing :

  • Collect geological information via sampling, mapping, core and rock chip logging for ore / resource delineation and ore extraction optimisation
  • Help identify and classify ore zones
  • Assist in reviewing stope and ore drive plans
  • Support underground GC drilling activities
  • Undertake sampling of stope ore and underground ROM pad
  • Ensure haulage is designated correctly according to grade
  • Assist the underground production geologist as needed
  • Monitor development headings and stope production
  • Assist with geological mapping, trenching, and sampling
  • Develop skills to direct the excavator within the ore zone (ore spotting)
  • Assist with interpretation of the ore body
  • Prepare, log, and sample core
  • Follow and contribute to the development and review of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

About You

The company is looking for :

  • A graduate with a degree in geology or relevant earth sciences
  • Full Class 1 Driver’s License
  • First Aid Certificate (beneficial)
  • Previous experience in open pit or underground mining environments (desirable)
  • Intermediate computer literacy including experience with mining software and databases (preferred)
  • Ability to collaborate and engage with the team in alignment with OceanaGold’s Purpose, Vision, and Values

    Career Progression
