The Faculty of Medicine – Dunedin is part of the University of Otago Faculty of Medicine, established in 1875, and is New Zealand's first medical school. Medical students undertake three years' study in Dunedin, before choosing the Christchurch, Dunedin, or Wellington campuses for clinical training in years four, five, and six. Also on offer are undergraduate qualifications in health sciences and dozens of research-based postgraduate programmes. At any one time, the Dunedin campus hosts approximately 900 students and 500 academic, research, and professional staff. The Dean's Office is the administrative centre for Faculty of Medicine - Dunedin, for both academic and non‑academic matters.
Te mahi | The role
As the Student Care Coordinator, you’ll be the first point of contact for wellbeing in the Faculty of Medicine - Dunedin, providing responsive, compassionate, and effective support to students in the MBChB programme across the Dunedin campus and regional locations.
You will be responsible for monitoring student progress and wellbeing, recognising trends or issues that may require further attention or escalation. Collaborating closely with campus teams, placement staff, and external partners, you will take a holistic approach to meeting student’s individual needs. You will also play a key role in designing and delivering wellbeing initiatives, workshops, and resources that foster a positive and supportive student experience.

You’ll bring experience in student support or pastoral care, along with a qualification in advice and guidance, social work, counselling, or education. You’re an exceptional communicator with a compassionate, person‑centred approach, committed to creating a supportive experience for every student.
You handle sensitive information with the highest integrity, adhering to established policies and processes, and have a good understanding of confidentiality and privacy matters. You can explain complex procedures in a clear, accessible way, adapting your approach to meet the needs of your audience.

This is a permanent full time (37.5 hours per week), position located in Ōtepoti, Dunedin.
The appointments range for this role is $75,631 to $80,503. (Top of Range $88,750).
