Hatchery Manager

to join our South Auckland team.

In this pivotal role, you'll lead the daily operations of the hatchery, ensuring the efficient production of high-quality Day-Old Chicks (DOCs) through effective incubation, planning, and collaboration.

Safety, quality, biosecurity, and animal welfare will be your non-negotiables, as you take ownership of site management, production planning, cost control, and continuous improvement — all while supporting the National Hatchery Manager in achieving world-class outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Lead all hatchery operations to deliver high-quality chicks to internal and external customers, on time and in spec (DIFOTIS).

Champion health & safety, ensuring a safe, engaged, and compliant workplace.

Oversee incubation, hatching, logistics, and daily production planning.

Recruit, train, and develop staff, building capability and succession.

Ensure full compliance with biosecurity, animal welfare, and quality standards.

Maintain plant and equipment to minimise downtime and optimise performance.

Partner with internal and external customers to deliver outstanding service.

Manage budgets, control costs, and achieve KPIs through lean practices.

About You

Proven leadership in a hatchery, agriculture, or animal husbandry environment.

Tertiary qualification in agriculture, animal science, or related field (preferred).

Strong knowledge of incubation practices (single & multi-stage) and hatchery operations.

Sound understanding of H&S, biosecurity, and compliance requirements.

Demonstrated experience in site supervision, people leadership, and planning.

Familiarity with lean management practices and continuous improvement.
