About the team | Ko te rōpū nei

The team is responsible for leading news and media communications across the Council. As Manager News & Media, you'll be at the forefront of shaping how the Council communicates with the public and media.

About the role | Ko te mahi nei

The Manager News & Media is a key part of the Communications and Engagement leadership team. This role oversees the management of the Council's relationship with the media, including mainstream and social media. You'll provide strategic media advice to the Mayor, elected members, and senior leaders, lead media responses, manage the Council's online news platform, and oversee media training. You'll manage a team of five and play a key role in developing and implementing the Council's strategic communications plan.

About you | Ko Koe Tēnei

You'll bring :

  • At least 10 years' experience in communications or media, including 5 years in strategic media advisory roles.
  • Proven leadership experience and the ability to mentor and develop high-performing teams.
  • Strong relationship-building skills across all levels, including with media, elected members, and senior executives.
  • Excellent communication, strategic thinking, and planning abilities.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification in journalism, communications, or public relations.

  • Position - full-time, permanent
  • Location - This position is primarily based at Te Hononga Civic Offices, 53 Hereford Street
  • Salary - The salary band for this position goes from $126,230 to $140,255 per annum based on a 40 hour week. Starting salaries will be based on knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate brings to the role, and relativities both, within the immediate team and in the broader organisation for the same or similar roles.
