Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated construction site engineer / project manager to work client‑side in the remote island location of Tarawa, Kiribati and oversee the construction of a new hospital facility on the atoll of Tarawa. In this role, you will be the main point of contact locally for contract management and construction monitoring of the project, representing Egis.
Responsibilities :
- Managing contract administration and formal reporting for the construction contract (FIDIC contract).
- Overseeing all construction activities under the project.
- Coordinating with the contractor and managing all construction supervision activities for the construction works.
- Arranging and controlling meetings with the construction contractor for the project.
- Attending site every 2 days during the construction period and providing a brief weekly progress report to the client.
- Addressing day‑to‑day clarification of queries from the contractor.
- Reporting all relevant information to the client along with any issues or changes in the documents and obtaining directions as required.
- Monitoring and reporting on the implementation of the Site Specific Health and Safety Plan (SSHSP) and Site Specific Environmental Management Plan (SSEMP).
- Ensuring work is executed within the agreed budget, developing strategies to effectively manage variations and ensuring quality of work outcomes meet or exceed client expectations.
- Carrying out other construction‑related activities and duties as required.
- Maintaining close communication and collaboration with Egis’ project management team in NZ.
- Working alongside and mentoring other Kiribati‑based Egis staff.
- Engaging and building relationships with key local stakeholders.
Qualifications
We expect you to have :
Minimum 4 years of experience managing complex projects across all life stages, preferably within the Pacific region.Tertiary qualifications in civil or structural engineering.Proven background in project management for engineering projects at all life stages within Australia, New Zealand, and preferably the Pacific region.Demonstrated expertise in managing construction (building) projects.High level of personal resilience and persistence with the ability to influence others to achieve desired outcomes.Strong stakeholder management and contract management expertise.Strong analytical skills with proven ability to deliver complex projects independently.Excellent conflict resolution, negotiation and problem‑solving skills.Strong proficiency in English (written and verbal).Effective verbal and written communication capabilities to interface with stakeholders at all levels.Strong computer and system literacy.Additional Information
This opportunity requires the successful candidate to reside locally in Kiribati. The contract length is fixed, open to 6 months up to 24 months. Egis will support you with :
