The Role / Te mahi

We are seeking an experienced leader to serve as the Senior Warden of Colleges / Tautiaki Matua. This position provides operational leadership across the University’s owned and operated residential colleges and University Flats, ensuring that our college communities continue to offer a safe, inclusive, and enriching scholastic experience for our tauira.

The Senior Warden / Tautiaki Matua will :

  • Oversee and support College Wardens and their teams.
  • Oversee policies, practices, and initiatives that enhance the wellbeing, safety, and academic success of students in our colleges.
  • Champion and represent the Otago college experience internally and externally.
  • Align services with the University’s key Pae Tata strategic frameworks and enablers.
  • Foster a culture of academic support, community engagement, and operational effectiveness (including legislative compliance).

Your Skills and Experience / Kā Pūkeka me kā Wheako

We are looking for a leader who is / has :

  • Proven experience managing large, complex teams to deliver results in a human‑orientated service.
  • Demonstrated experience in tertiary residential life or a related field.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the tertiary environment and in particular accommodation or tauira services.
  • A strong commitment to tauira and kaimahi wellbeing and development, with demonstrated ability to build inclusive, supportive communities.
  • Strong organisational and time‑management skills, capable of overseeing a 24 / 7 collegiate service portfolio across multiple sites, including on‑call responsibilities while maintaining a healthy work / life balance.
  • Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills, with the ability to work effectively across diverse stakeholders.
  • Skilled in negotiation, resilient, empathetic, and adaptable in responding to the challenges of student residential life.

    This is a full‑time (37.5 hours per week), permanent role, located in Ōtepoti, Dunedin. Live‑in accommodation can be provided if required.

    Salary range for this role is $143,378 to $158,299, Top of Range $173,283.
