About the Role

Exciting Leadership Opportunity - Charge Nurse Manager (CNM), Surgical Admission and Planning Unit (SAPU).

We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated nursing leader to take on the role of Charge Nurse Manager for our Surgical Admission and Planning Unit (SAPU).

This is a rewarding opportunity to lead a dynamic team, drive service improvement, and make a real difference to patient care.

As CNM, you will provide visible and proactive leadership, ensuring the safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of care across SAPU.

You will be responsible for the effective management of people, systems, and resources, while fostering a supportive environment that enables staff to deliver excellent patient-centred care.

A key focus of this role will be to oversee and coordinate the acute surgical patient flow; supporting patients referred from the Emergency Department or the community who require diagnostic testing, assessment, treatment, surgery, or short-stay admission.

You will work in close collaboration with surgical specialties and wider hospital services to ensure smooth, timely, and integrated patient journeys.

This role also offers the opportunity to lead service development, champion innovation, and contribute to the strategic direction of Surgical Services in partnership with the Operations Manager and wider leadership team.

About the Team / Service Location

The Surgical Admission and Planning Unit (SAPU) is currently based in Ward 4 South and includes 10 inpatient beds and 4 assessment chairs.

We operate in a fast-paced, acute care environment focused on assessment, planning, treatment, and short-stay admissions.

Our team of Registered Nurses are enthusiastic, passionate, and adaptable professionals.

We value teamwork and work closely with the wider multidisciplinary team to achieve the best possible health outcomes for our patients and their whanau.

SAPU also partners with other hospital departments to support and improve patient flow throughout the facility.

About You

You will bring :

A. Knowledge, Skills & Experience :

  • Understands the significance and obligations of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and supports leadership of these within the service
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of NZ Health System including equity issues, professional leadership and emerging issues for the nursing profession
  • Proven Leadership and management capability
  • Minimum 4 years nursing experience
  • Experience in leading quality improvement and change initiatives
  • Experience in developing, implementing and monitoring policies, audits, protocols and guidelines
  • Proficiency in computer skillsB.

Essential Professional Qualifications / Accreditations / Registrations :

  • Postgraduate Diploma desired, expected to work towards Master's Degree
  • Attainment and maintenance of senior PDRP C. The candidate well-suited to the role will place a high value on the following :
